Point of note John McKevitt finishing his first ever Olympic triathlon took the Carlingford Spirit of Triathlon Award/Cup for his achivement

John McKevitt triathlete/legend comments:– The tri is a very individual event. Before it everybody is full of bon-homie but this is nerves. In the water the only sound is the silence of the water, on the bike u get into urself and the only sound / feeling is power in ur legs as u keep the pedals turning, the run should be quiet as well like running on eggshells. At different times during the event u get the “high” of a good swim , cycle, run. The most important thing is that anybody can achievea nd take part in a triathlona nd at the end the other competitors are not important , u r only competing against urself.  Thanks for yesterday it was great. Well done.

Gerry McCabe:– one of the best triathlons I have been to in a long time, so well run and marshalled, great to be part of it. Well done to all Setanta members for putting on a great race.

Andrew Coyle:– You couldn’t be unaffected by the positive energy around the sailing club on Saturday. The event organisation was superb – on the water, on the road and in the clubhouse. The good will, man for man, amongst the triathlon fraternity was particularly obvious at the finish line. Although fiercely competitive, the hand shaking and comparing of times after the race was an example of the mutual respect amongst triathletes.
